Children can make a difference. The 4th graders at Sun Valley School in San Rafael, California did not want their plastic markers to go to the landfill. They rallied and gained support from the community to tell Crayola and Dixon Ticonderoga to take back the used markers.
The difference they made you can make. Pay attention to items that go into your trash can. Is it an item that the manufacturer could take back? Is it a product that could be made more earth-friendly if made from different materials? Write them an email or letter telling them so. Get your family and neighbors on board.
More manufacturers need to take responsibility for what they produce. Not only while they produce it but after it goes to the consumer. Taking back the used item will insure less will be going to the landfills/trash, polluting our oceans, or being incinerated. Companies need to be held accountable before, during and after production.
